Thursday Outing
Thursday, 12 September 2024

Cloudy morning changed to sunshine and pleasant temperatures. Weather still quite dry,
with some understory trees wilting, even dropping the occasional yellowed leaves.

More than occasional on a horse chestnut, Aesculus hippocastanum,
on Ridge Road. It is nearly bare, with crisp brown leaves on the ground.

We like to go out for lunch on Thursdays. Why Thursday? Fridays start the weekend and tourist may already be crowding in. Some places that are open on the weekend close on Monday, or Tuesday. Whatever. Thursday works well for us.

A casual discussion, where have we recently been / not been and we decide to go to

Cocina del Sol at 10 Bridge Street #2 in Frenchtown. Find a place to park, walk along

and pass a gnome, peacefully snoozing in the sunshine.

Down the stairs, passing an Aztec-ish carving. Like their colors and art.
Choose a table - we could have eaten outside but prefer indoors.

I decide on a Jarritos, mango flavor. Paul has a coke.

We sample the freshly made salsa with crispy tortilla chips that come
as an appetizer. Paul chooses a taco bowl, with beef for the protein.

I decide on chiles rellenos, a favorite. But today there is a special,
two jalapeños rellenos style. Good! Rather piquante, not caliente.
Wait staff checks to see how I like the special, do I need water. I say
"No flames." and we all smile. I'm sure the seeds had been removed.

The walls are painted in bright colors. I realize my turquoise jersey
is a match. Camera always travels with me, and Paul takes a picture.

We enjoyed our pleasant lunch. Go to the IGA for a few items, then homeward bound.
As we are on Ridge Road I see a lump off to towards one side and yell "Stop the car!"

Scramble out and pick up the box turtle that had been plodding across the road.
They must be moved in the direction in which they were heading, which I so do.
Back to car. Get camera. Take picture. Turtle annoyed, legs and head still "boxed."

And these were the midday events on this Thursday.
